Causes Of Baby Yeast Infection
Baby yeast infections is considered as an unusual
problem. Adults may have yeast infections through different means
ranging from the medicinal use of antibiotic or steroids, too-tight
pants, shorts, or jeans, some soapy bath products, sexual relations with
an infected man, and wearing damp socks, underwear or swimsuits. Babies
don’t usually do any of these things other than, when very necessary,
take antibiotics. Doctors recognize that babies can get a yeast
infection via antibiotics and advise the mother to check out the
symptoms that she’s most likely not very familiar with.
Other Possible Causes Of Baby Yeast Infections
Baby yeast infections can be caused by the mother who fail to keep
female babies clean in the vaginal area. Again, an unchanged diaper is
precisely what the candida needs. Baby yeast infections also can be
caused by improper bathing of the child. Harsh soaps are known to cause
adult and baby candida. A first-time mother may not appreciate that
baby soaps must be very gentle so as not to irritate the child’s
vulva.
If the mother has a yeast infection during her delivery of the child,
the baby can develop a yeast infection post-natal. Candida is a fungus
of “opportunity.” The vaginal birth canal is warm and moist – just what candida needs in order to grow. Neo-natal doctors may question if the
mother knew she was infected, and if so, why she did not look for
treatment before delivery.
Babies who develop yeast infections from these two causes suggest that
the mother is either uninformed that candida can be caused by these
causes, or that the mother is simply negligent and neglectful of the
child. For first-time mothers who are short of experiences from their
own mother or older sisters, this is simply fixed by the doctor
referring the mother to free baby care classes available in nearly all
hospitals and clinics. Once she understands how babies get yeast
infections, it’s not likely that the condition will occur again.
Neglectful mothers who lack patience and interest in their newborn are
harder to deal with. They may be completely conscious that babies
develop yeast infections from unchanged diapers and inappropriate
bathing, but they simply refuse to change their parenting conduct. In
this case, if the mother seems unwilling to listen to the doctor’s
suggestion, the doctor must make a decision if this is a situation that
warrants compulsory reporting to their local child abuse and neglect
social workers.
Lastly, as shocking as it may be, babies can develop a yeast infection
from sexual abuse by an adult male. There are known cases of the sexual
abuse of children who are only days old. If an adult male contacted a candida infection from a sexual partner and he tries to insert his penis
by force into a female baby’s vagina, the child will show obvious
symptoms such as tearing of the vulva, vaginal bleeding, redness and
inflammation, and an odorous discharge from the child’s vagina.
Certainly, if a baby contracts a yeast infection through sexual
abuse, the doctor will right away report to child protective agencies
and law enforcement.
