Common Causes Of Yeast Infections In Women
A yeast infection is an irritation of mucous membranes of the body, such
as the vagina, intestines, skin or mouth. This infection causes
irritation and swelling of the affected area(s). The cause of yeast
infections is an over-abundance of a fungus known as candidiasis. The
candida fungus is a fungus of “opportunity,” meaning that the fungus
attacks a vulnerable area of the body. The candida family of fungi also
causes thrush infections in the mouth and vaginitis.
You may ask, why should I know the cause of yeast infection? To prevent
future yeast infections, you must know what causes them. Remember, we
don’t just want to relief the symptom, we want to treat the cause.
A major cause of yeast infections among women is taking antibiotics or
steroid medications. These medications make the vagina develop too much
candida. Actually, candida is a fungus commonly found in the vagina;
it’s only when the fungus explodes into an over-abundance that it causes
a yeast infection. Antibiotics and steroids are necessary medications
for women who need them. Women who know they’re prone to yeast
infections when they must take these medications head off a candida
overflow by using a yeast infection medication at the same time.
Another cause of yeast infections is wearing damp underclothing or
swimsuits during hot weather. Candida thrives in warm, damp
environments. Perspiration in the vaginal area and/or wearing a damp
swimsuit provides everything candida needs to flourish. To prevent yeast
infections in hot, damp weather, change your underwear if it feels too
damp, use wetness-absorbing powder in your underclothes, and change out
of your swimsuit into dry clothing when you’re not swimming.
A well-known cause of yeast infections among women is wearing shorts or
jeans that are too tight. Clothing that’s too tight-fitting causes
vaginal irritation. Candida thrives on irritated skin. Once any kind of
irritation takes hold, so does candida! Women are advised to wear
clothing that fits property and forgo vanity for common sense.
Tight clothing is not the only source of irritations that cause yeast
infections. Some women are especially sensitive to bath products that
contain a lot of soapy suds. While these products may feel and smell
pleasant, these things aren’t worth causing a yeast infection. If you
know that certain bath products cause irritations in which candida
thrives, simply avoid them. Try something like a milk-bath product that
contains a small amount of soap.
Finally, it’s vitally important that women do not use douche products.
Your physician will advise you that douches are not helpful or necessary
in maintaining the health of your vagina. Nature does that for you and
does not need assistance from harmful douche products.
