Besides having symptoms in the genital parts for both male and female, the signs of yeast infection may also be seen in the mouth area. The technical term for such infection is oral yeast infection or thrush. Oral yeast infection or thrush is another type of candida-based yeast infections. Thrush is a painful, uncomfortable condition. It is also very unsightly, causing embarrassment to the sufferer. The signs of oral yeast infection are creamy-white, curd-like lesions on the tongue, inside the lips, and on the walls of the mouth. Thrush lesions can range in size from a fingernail to a half-dollar. The lesions can also extend down into the throat where they be unseen, but are certainly felt by the sufferer. Another sign of oral yeast infection is that when the lesions are debribed (scraped) from the mouth, the underlying tissue is raw and bleeding and is extremely painful. If left untreated, thrush can spread to other parts of the body, resulting in damages to internal organs. Once the signs of this yeast infection are correctly identified, thrush is treated with a liquid anti-fungal such as Nystatin that’s swished in the mouth several times a day. Nystatin is often accompanied by a liquid lidocaine solution that is also swished in the mouth, numbing the painful areas. Famvir and Clotrimazole are anti-fungal pills that effectively relieve thrush.
