Vaginal Yeast Infection Symptoms
When a woman begins to feel dryness, burning or
itching sensation in her vagina area, it is time for her to question
what’s causing such sensation. Statistics shows that three out of four
women in America will experience yeast infections in their lifetime.
Since it’s one of the most common health problems in vaginal
irritations, there is a high chance that the itching and burning
sensations are vaginal yeast infection symptoms. However, there are other
things that can mimic vaginal yeast infection symptoms. It is wise for
you to learn the difference and try to tell when you’re experiencing
something easy to treat or a problem that may be a little more serious.
Standard vaginal yeast infection symptoms
Standard vaginal yeast infection symptoms include itching, redness,
burning, or swelling of the vaginal area, a white discharge that may
resemble cottage cheese, dryness, irritation or pain during sexual
intercourse, and a burning sensation during urinating. The number of
symptoms which an infected female may experience differs. Some women
experience all or most of the vaginal yeast infection symptoms, while
others may experience one or two. The degree and intensity of their
experience may vary too. Some vaginal yeast infection symptoms can be
very painful and extremely uncomfortable while some can be quite mild.
Are You Really Experiencing A Vaginal Yeast Infection Symptom?
If you experience a ‘likely’ vaginal yeast infection symptom, don’t
assume that candida albicans, the responsible fungus, is the culprit.
Many other more serious vaginal problems have similar symptoms to yeast
infections and only a doctor can find out the real causes.
Generally, while other vaginal problems can resemble yeast infection
symptoms, there are some differences that can help you tell the
difference. A bacterial infection will have greyish discharge that has a
fishy odour, and over-the-counter medication for a yeast infection will
not cure symptoms. If the discharge is greenish-yellow, the infection
may be related to trichomoniasis, a sexually transmitted disease.
Vaginitis resembles yeast infection symptoms in that there is burning,
itching and redness but the main causes are related to irritations from
perfumed soaps, douches and bubble baths. Discontinuing the use of such
products will usually relief the symptoms of vaginitis rather quickly.
If this is your first time experiencing the problem of vaginal yeast
infection symptoms, you should consult with a doctor to get a proper
diagnosis so as to out-rule anything else that could be the culprit. If
you’re pregnant, it is even more important that you should consult with
your doctor before using over-the-counter medication for your vaginal
yeast infection symptoms. Not all products are recommended or considered
safe for pregnant women.
